Biography
Ahmed Mohamed Kakoyi, also known as "Mad Ice," is a Ugandan singer-songwriter and producer. He entered the music scene in 2003 with his debut studio album and title track "Baby Gal," which dominated the East African radio charts for years. Over the years, Mad Ice's musical style has evolved from BongoFleva/Ragga to a more profound and soulful sound, reflecting the weight of his experiences while maintaining melodic intensity. Some of his other popular hits include "Rose (Nimedata)," "Wange," "Te Amo," and "Mapenzi Sumu".
Mad Ice has enthralled audiences with his soulful voice and energetic performances across international stages and venues, showcasing his musical prowess across Pop, jazz, and world music stages. His musical style, Afro-Soul, is a unique fusion of Soul music and African melodies, and he primarily sings in Swahili, Luganda, and English.
Mad Ice started pursuing his career dreams in 1998 as an up-and-coming MC on various mobile sound systems. His earlier works were influenced by the mid-90s Caribbean sounds of Chaka Demus & Pliers, Shaggy, Shaba Ranks, and Cutty Ranks, later embracing influences from Seal, Lokua Kanza, and Oliver Mtukudzi.
